Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Leaders from 6th, 10th, 32nd, 70th, 73rd & 97th took part in the annual World Jamboree on the Air & The Internet (JOTA/JOTI) at the weekend. The event was organised by The District Radio Team at District HQ and was an amazing success.

The young people were able to send greetings messages to Sea Scouts from Norway who told 10th Beavers that it was snowing outside!!! Conversations took place with lots of young people from The Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Iceland & all over the UK.  The Radio Team made contact with Scottish Scout HQ at Fordell Firs, World Scout Bureau (Global Support Team) in Luxembourg & received special greetings from the World Scouting Team & Troop Okinawa 1 Japan. 

Other activities over the weekend included Walkie Talkies, a variety of codes, Bingo & the popular ‘Talking Trees’. The young people loved this activity with a lot of ‘conversations’ between trees and the young people and at one point during the day, one young member got a bit annoyed with ‘Delta’ tree for being very naughty!!!!
JOTI activities included the ever popular Minecraft thru the Scoutlink server with the young people able to chat online with Scouts all over the world. All ages were also challenged to defuse ‘a Bomb’ by solving a serious of activities within a time limit. A few of the very young members were thrilled to complete the task.
Last activity of the young people’s time at the Jamboree was the typical campfire. But at JOTA/JOTI it wasn’t quite so typical as this was a digital campfire. The young people had about 30 seconds to do something really silly while the webcam filmed them, then it was uploaded to the digital campfire circle at the Jamboree where they were able to see themselves alongside other groups from all over the world.
