Scout Communicator Badge Night

Tonight we had a very successful evening where the first of two groups of Scouts from the 85th Greenock and District Group, from Inverkip, achieved their Communicator Badges and enjoyed lots of fun radio related activities.

Jamboree on the Air/ Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA/JOTI) 2018

Once again the Radio Club was active as GB0GDS for the JOTA weekend, making numerous radio contacts with Scout Radio Stations all over the World. Our station made 360 radio contacts in 54 countries. They had plenty of Scout contacts within the UK, some making contact several times to ensure everyone had a chance to talk to another Scout.
We also took part in Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI ) where we gave visitors the opportunity to interact with the virtual the Jamboree Camp Site and play Minecraft on the Scout server as well as a locally developed Augmented Reality activity for the younger visitors.

Look what arrived in the Post today!!!

Club treasurer, Kai, MM1AUF was a lucky winner in the Prize Draw held by CQ Scotland at the recent Braehead Rally.
Her prize was a goodie bag jam-packed full of BBC Micro:bit micro-computers, components, resource books and guides.

This will provide lots of project work for the club and hopefully engage our local scouts with amateur radio and electronics.
We would like to express our thanks to CQ Scotland for the kits and look forward to incorporating them in our activities.

The CQ SCOTLAND GROUP is a non profit community group introducing electronics and amateur radio to the next generation. This is achieved through group building events and the distribution of free electronic project kits. Their aim is to inspire the next generation to gain their foundation amateur radio license or spark an interest in electronics, that could lead to worthwhile careers.

2018 JOTA-JOTI Travel-Free Jamboree

By R MIDDELKOOP

This year something new will happen……

The Jamboree On The Air / Internet will be run for the first time just like a World Scout Jamboree. You can experience the same atmosphere and similar activities; all connected through amateur radio and internet. Without even leaving home! It is a true “travel-free Jamboree”.

Everything looks like a World Scout Jamboree. A map of the “campsite”  links all the possible activities that participants can take part in, and a schedule tells them when activities in the “campsite activity tents” are taking place.

Upon registration at the Main Gate, participating groups receive a Jamboree Handbook to help navigate the map and the weekend schedule. They can then navigate the campsite and choose what areas they want to visit and when, according to their planned activities. The Staff Camp has all extra information to assist leaders with the activities. It also hosts the agenda of “special events” during the JOTA-JOTI weekend.

A glimpse of what will be available on the campsite:

Global Development Village with activities for this years’ main theme “Life on Land”

Subcamps with a large internet café and a game zone

Science Park with all sorts of technical experiments and a radio base.
The Challenge Valley where you can try and challenge yourself and each other

The Campfire Circle where you can participate in different campfire talks by well-known Scout leaders

The WOSM HQ tent offers an insight into many of the other major Scout programmes around the world

The Jamboree HQ, where help is available for any possible problem.

and many more…..

Currently, your JOTA-JOTI camp site is under construction. Curious? You can already visit some parts of the new campsite and of course, register for the event at the Main Gate. Don’t miss it.

Explore the camp site and enjoy!
